Startup is using NASA technology to reinvent the wheel for civilian use

The SMART Tire Company (STC) was conceived in 2020 as part of the FedTech NASA Startup Program. The founding team worked with inventors at NASA Glenn Research Center to explore commercial applications of this breakthrough tire technology and have raised an undisclosed amount of private funding to bring shape memory alloy tires to market.

Products are made in the USA - in Ohio, Indiana and California. Our shape memory alloy components are developed and manufactured in Indiana by a NASA-experienced metal manufacturing company. Cleveland, Ohio is home to the American rubber & tire industry, and NASA Glenn Research Laboratory. Strategically located in the heart of the Rust Belt, Cleveland sits between the centers of the automotive and metal industries. This is where we plan to scale our major manufacturing operations. Our product design and marketing operations are based in California, which is also home to our METL collaborators, Spin and Felt Bicycles.
